Another missed flight, one of many.
I arrived in Heathrow Airport with 4 hours to spare before my connecting flight to Cork. So how can I possibly miss my flight to Cork you ask? Well, only I can achieve such a feat it seems, easily!
I went through immigration when I arrived in Heathrow Terminal 3 and was told to head to Terminal 1 for my connecting flight. Knowing I had plenty of time, I checked in and went to get some breakfast and catch up with emails and do a bit of duty free shopping. Yep, burn some money baby. They announced the gate number for my flight about an hour prior to departure and so I headed for the gate with about 45 mins to spare but when I got to the counter, I was turned away! It seemed I had to go through another immigration check in Terminal 1! Wtf?! So I rushed to the immigration desk but given that I can't really walk fast with my busted knee let alone run, I got there and through immigration check with only a few mins left prior to my flights departure. When I got back to the gate they've already off loaded my checked in bag and I missed my flight by just a few seconds. So the trend of burning my dwindling travel funds continue. I had to book another flight for £60! Ugh! Why oh why do these things happen to me?! Waaahhhhhh!
Anyway, I don't really like stressing too much about these things. Once the deed is done it's done, move on and just laugh about it. I have another 4 hours of waiting (and i'm currently camped out in front of the departure gate or what i'm hoping to be my departure gate!) and i'm going to savour the last few hours of rest before the Irish leg of the holiday begins, you can probably guess what that involves! Lol! I just hope this bloody cough goes away soon. :(
It's no fun waiting but my trusty iPad will keep me company for now.
Lesson learned : not all airports are created equal. No matter how many interntionl airports you've been through, you still can't say you've seen them all. Never feel complacent that you're through all the checks until you're actually infront of the boarding gate! :)
Welcome to British soil Christine! ;p
