A view from Jeanneb

Catbells

It was very murky on our trip up to the northern lakes today to meet up with sister in law Ron and Ian. We always enjoy their company and as they live in the NE we try to seek somewhere approximately half way between us to meet.

It wasn't a good forecast but it was at least dry when we arrived and even a little clearer than it had promised to be on our journey up. We did a walk along the edge of the lake (Derwentwater) and this is the view across to Catbells from near the viewpoint at Friars Crag. I love hills with wispy cloud across them.

Back in the town we sought out Wetherspoons for lunch and this was in the old courthouse building complete with the dock with a short flight of steps down to the cells which still had their metal doors on but now, housed diners. I do like the way this company preserves the character of old buildings.

Sadly whilst having lunch the rain arrived and became pretty heavy. We decided to go back towards our route home and call in to Rheged to see the exhibition 'A Celebration of Harris Tweed'. (Paula J alerted me to this) It included a gallery of wonderful photos of the Isles of Harris and Lewis that we were fortunate to visit last summer. Sadly I couldn't really afford any of the goods in cluding a magnificent book with all the photos in which would probably been almost impossible to lift and at £185 for the deluxe version I wasn't going to try!
There was also one of the 'Go Herdwick Sheep' which are apparently to be found all over the Lakes this year. Trevorearthy was the first to mention these and Paula J saw one yesterday. Today we saw 4 in total but not the one Paula posted as an extra yesterday. You can see them in my extra compilation.
I can see this could be a summer quest!

Thank you Ron and Ian for a lovely day out as usual.
