Rosamond Seeks a New Point of View
Dear Diary,
Rosamond, and sometimes Rudy, have taken to sitting on top of the terracotta cat sculpture under the tree. Rosamond would hop down and grab a few seeds then hop back on top. She did this at least a dozen times as I watched her. Was she keeping watch for Gaylord who comes out of the woods to her right and always chases her away? Or did she just like the new view from atop the sculpture?
It is good to change our point of view from time to time. It is refreshing. That is what travel has always been for me...seeking new landscapes to inspire me, to shake me up. I use to do that with my students too. They would come back to school from a holiday and their desks would be rearranged. Strangely, many found that uncomfortable at first. Adults can be like that too. They like things the way they always were...change can be disconcerting. The only ones that like change are wet babies, I use to say, and it is true.
But change is inevitable and even necessary for growth. Nothing stays the same and I try to embrace that. Nature teaches us that at every turn. So, I will take a lesson from Rosamond today and try to see things from a different point of view. I might find the old way of seeing was fine or I may discover a new way of regarding the world; a new insight or possibility. Either way will be fine with me.
