A little experimentation...

... with my series of Then & Now photographs, which I have blipped a few times recently.

Today, instead of presenting the two photos alongside each other, as here, I have merged the two images to illustrate how they connect. It doesn't work with all the pairs of images but seems to work when the changes have been minimal in some parts of the picture.

I find the best approach, when trying to match up current buildings with a given historical image, is to concentrate on the upper storeys, especially of shops; this is usually where the buildings have changed the least.
