The low-down for a high-up

On 28th December my blip concerned the idea that some of our old farm buildings could become a workshop for refugees and asylum seekers, as part of a wider scheme to host, support and accommodate  a small number of  displaced families in our area.
Since then there have been a series of fund-raising efforts along with sterling work on the part, chiefly, of the two activists on the right, Fred and Vicky, to negotiate with bureaucracy and  officialdom, represented today  by Hannah from the Home Office, on the left. Her visit  was to see what we can offer in terms of accommodation and resources within the community and to meet individuals and groups offering support locally. It's a significant step towards  getting the go-ahead  for what would  be the first such community-sponsored resettlement initiative in the UK. The idea has been adopted in Canada so why not here?

Not everyone will be favourable to the plan - there will be fears and misgivings from high and low,  but if we can demonstrate that a small resettlement scheme could work here  in West Wales we may find ourselves in the vanguard of a wider national movement. Let's hope so!
