Burn
Our neighbor leaves part of his land to native prairie. It isn't strictly speaking native prairie because it has been farmed in the past. But they don't mow it and they do let sunflowers and other grasses and wildflowers grow. As part of this effort they have burnt the grassy and dead material which is what ranchers do on rangeland further west, all to emulate natural burns that historically have occurred as the result of lightning strikes. Ours neighbor's burn was obviously well controlled as can be seen in the straight edge at the end of the burn. In a week or little more we shall see the new green growth where all is black today.
