Songs for Cumbria
A packed but very enjoyable day ended with a concert in Boughton Monchelsea Village Hall raising funds for Cumbria in the wake of the devestation wrought by fooding at the end of last year. Our friend Nigel is from that part of the world and despite living almost as far away from Cumbria as it is possible to live and still be in England he was instrumental in organising an evening of folk music and entertainment which proved to be very good indeed.
There were several different acts, all performing their own brand of folk and acoustic music and other turns ranging from Mid 17th C dancing to Bob Marley and ending with some rousing community singing. Included in the ticket price was a jolly good supper, with a barrel of beer from the Rockin Robin Brewery on tap as well.
Earlier in the day we'd had a quick canter into town for a coffee, to pay in some cheques and to by a few sundries. By which time I went off the referee in Greenwich, which turned out to be a very enjoyable affair. Owing to my advanced age I don't get to ref many league games nowadays but today was an exception and a good game ensued between Greenwich and the already crowned Kent League Division 2 Champions from Sittingbourne which Sittingbourne won 11-24.
There was some sort of do on at the club which necessitated the provision of a hog roast the remains of which provided sustinence for both teams and the referee after the game. Delicious meat, with stuffing and apple sauce in a bun went down very well with a refereshing drink.
