Park in the city

Serious sightseeing day with an early start at Tsukuji fish market,  reputedly the largest fish market in the world, soon to be relocated to another part of Tokyo.  It was daunting navigating between the amazing array of wriggling  seafood and fish as well as avoiding the carts and trucks that zipped about transporting goods,  the tourists who flock there in their thousands were equally as daunting! 

A short walk and the the tranquil surroundings of Hamarikyu gardens was very welcome. Peaceful and beautifully laid out, the 300 year old pine tree was a deserved highlight as was the peony garden.  Once fortified by the pretty views and a large coffee I caught the water bus to Asakusa which over 45 minutes took in many of Tokyo's main sights, ending at the Sky Tree. 

Lunch was going to be a recommended vegan restaurant which was full when I got there so I made do with some roasted chestnuts and freshly made matcha green tea. Karinarimon Gate, Nakamise Dori and Sensoji Temple were oppressively crowded with tourists - understandably so! 

A final trip to Ginza for some window shopping and a visit to the historic Wako building finished off the day. There was just enough time for a couple of glasses of fizz before catching the Shinkansen back to Kobe.  

It's hard work being a tourist!
