Wortley Top Forge

It's such a long time since I've walked past here and the beautiful weather this morning made me feel I wanted to go a bit further and anyway I need to build up some stamina for the Thurgoland Boundary Walk on May Day.  Wortley Top Forge is a fascinating place - it was open today but as I didn't have any money with me I couldn't go in.  The `top' part of the name comes from the fact that it's down stream from the other wire mills on this part of the River Don.  Years ago this whole area was a veritable hive of industrial activity - hard to imagine that now.
