George Wyllie- Scotland's most popular sculptor
Who is Scotland’s best-loved sculptor? Well, I guess it’s a no brainer: George Wyllie maker of the straw locomotive, paper boat and the giant safety pin “ just incase”).
Today his daughter, Louise, and journalist Jan Patience launched their biography of him:
Arrivals and Sailings – the Making of George Wyllie” in the Park gallery, Falkirk.
A self taught artist his work had immense breadth and freedom and he was still making work well into his eighties.
A larger than life character, he found material for his sculptures in the most unlikely places, once using the forks in the family home for his latest work- to the consternation of the rest of the household!
