X Marks the Spotted Ladybug

We biked to breakfast along the slough with the busy and noisy racetrack on our left, that same route where the mystery caterpillar lives (see yesterday's post). I spotted a number of the fuzzy critters from the bike; it was very easy to find one to take home and grow out to help me ID them. I took one that was sitting on a big, dewy leaf, wrapped it in paper towel and tucked it into the outside pocket of my fanny pack.
Got home and promptly forgot about it until evening, but it had disappeared. Haven't a clue if it escaped enroute or if I'm going to find millions of baby caterpillars upstairs one of these days. I know, I know - that's not how it works.
