wowser what a glorious day.   I can't think why we thought it would be a good idea to bring about 5 jumpers, fleeces and thinsulate hats.   Not that I'm complaining.

So we hopped on the steam train at Harmans Cross to Swanage this morning.  This view is of the King Alfred Monument on Swanage front.  It was erected by John Mowlem in 1862 to commemorate a naval battle which King Alfred won one over the Danes in 877AD in Swanage Bay.   The cannon balls on top are Russian shells fired at British ships during the Crimean War and found lodged in their wooden hulls.

Such an interesting little town to walk through especially because two chaps from Swanage, John Mowlem and George Burt, who made their fortune in London in the 19th Century adorned their home town with a collection of bits and bobs of architecture from old London, including the entire front of a London Livery Company built in the time of Charles II, Hyde Park Corner archway, bits of Waterloo Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, damaged 17th century statues which came from London's Royal Exchange, built shortly after the Great Fire of London.

We walked up to Durlston Country Park which is a beautiful coastal area with a castle, a giant globe, beautiful views etc etc.

So much to see, such beautiful weather, so happy.....
