Aha!

A few months ago I blipped a keyhole and referred to park gates that were always shut but today they were open so I could not resist going in (a detour before the botanics) and look at this stone that previously I could only see from a distance.

It appears to have 2 water fountains and a plaque  for a head master of London Street School in the late 1800s.  "Throughout life he sought the Happy Child"... I have to assume it might have been moved here given London Street is maybe a mile away?
