To My Heart's Content
My sweetheart and I escaped to Wellington for the weekend. We escaped from the everyday routine of our lives, leaving the children behind. Leaving the children behind. Our pangs of guilt kept us locked in our hotel room only to emerge for food and air...
I know, Mom, not funny. But fun nonetheless!
Actually, we were quite giddy to rediscover, re-examine, and evaluate all those topics we ever wanted to discuss. We had been consistently interrupted by our children for the past six years. Used to reading each other's mind, we found it pleasantly surprising to still posses the ability to complete a sentence. Intoxicated on our new found freedom, albeit for just the weekend, we did something our children would hate doing with us -we hiked everywhere. We didn't stop every ten minutes and when we did stop, I photographed to my heart's content.
This evening we went to the Botanical Gardens via the cable car and on our way back towards Cuba Street I blipped this at the memorial. It was so serene & peaceful. It brought hope to me. Yes, perhaps the light at the end of this journey will lead us to a bit of wisdom to take home and share with the kids.
