A Beacon Of Light In The Dark
I think we (well I) forget how lucky we (I) are (is). I was listening to a report on the radio about a huge drought effecting millions of people. Some so desperate for water they have committed suicide, preferring that to dying of thirst. Why? Well partly because of the lack of rainfall and also because the crop they are growing, sugarcane, loves water and is sucking the ground dry. It's sad and the fact that we all take such a simple thing for granted makes it all the more frustrating.
Rooh's a noble dog - she was happy to pose for another blip on our walk today. I certainly appreciate this place more because I've seen it at its cruelest - rain, wind, snow, blizzard, dark, -10. Today, sunshine, light breeze and stunning views.
A villager lit a beacon on Pikedaw this evening to celebrate the Queen's birthday. An old way of communicating between valleys in the past, it was like stepping back in time as I looked out my bathroom window at it. What would happen if all our new, fancy technology was suddenly taken away from us?
