The One That Got Away?

This fossil fish was not found on our U3A Geology outing today but it is the sort of thing we were looking for within Silurian rocks by the Lynslie Burn, near Lyne Water in the Pentland Hills. These were formed from muddy sediments from a beach or river environment.

In fact, some of the rocks we examined did contain tiny fossils of fish scales, though recognised only by our Paleontologist guides Tom and Andy, who were pleased with the discovery.

All in all a successful and enjoyable day out in fine weather
