The Saturday routine was varied today as Lesley (from the office) and I joined Neil Hunter from SCRA for a session with the Care Council. This is a group of 30 or so young people from across Scotland who were being brought together for their first formal Council weekend to discuss the issues they and others like them might be improved. They are supported by WhoCares?Scotland. ( PS| consent secured to photo!)
They are of various ages from 11 up and have had a weekend of talking to groups. The police were there on Friday and were talking about stop and search. The Scottish Social Services Council preceded us. And we did a session on the children's hearings system in the afternoon.
Lots of discussion, ideas, chat, challenges. One or two good experiences but some where the practice and behaviours of those in the system did not sound as if they matched best practice.
A great experience with some novel suggestions about how to attract younger people and those with care experience to become panel members. as well as some of the issues Boards and senior management have to face.
