Mull of Kintyre
The lighthouse on the southwestern tip of Scotland's Kintyre peninsula where exceptionally strong tidal flows live and coupled with exposure to the Atlantic swells poses a considerable hazard to shipping.
This was only the second lighthouse commissioned in Scotland.
Paul McCartney is a nearby resident and brought international recognition to the area with the 1977 hit song which featured the Campbelltown Pipe Band.
"..........oh, mist rolling in from the sea
My desire is always to be here ......
Far have I travelled and much have I seen
Darkest of mountains and valleys of green
Past painted deserts the sun sets on fire
As he carries me home to the Mull of Kintyre"
