Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble
The former RAF Bicester Airfield has been undergoing a renaissance over the last few years. It was saved from being flattened and turned into a supermarket or housing estate, and had a preservation order placed on it.
The people that took the site on decided to restore the buildings and find companies specialising in historic and vintage cars and planes to take on the buildings. A few times a year they open up the site and invite car clubs to come along, the companies show off their work and the public get to see.
A friend of mine who works in historic racing flew down in his own light aircraft, and we had a good mooch about. Bumped into a few people we knew and generally had a good day out.
The picture is of a mobile cinema, originally built in the late sixties, seven of them were made, but sadly all were lost apart from this one. It was restored over a number of years since the early 2000's and now is available for hire. We saw a showing of some Pathe news reels in the 20 seat cinema, which seemed very fitting for the day.
