Paisley Harbour

Surprisingly to many ship watchers the White Cart water, a tributary of the Clyde, was navigable from 1815 onwards and many sailings took place until the railways took much of the traffic more quickly to the coast. There were also three small shipyards in Paisley well into the 20thC
This 1959 photo is of the Countess of Breadalbane on charter to the Clyde River Steamer Club  with enthusiastic day trippers (mainly men) about to embark
The club still does charters for members (still mainly men) looking for an unusual trip on the Clyde but sadly the last passenger sailing from Paisley was in 1966 on the Maid of Argyll
