Mono Monday: Diamond

We had joyful celebrations in November 2009 for Mum and Dad's Diamond Wedding Anniversary.  As well as a card from the Queen, which I had arranged months beforehand, they renewed their wedding vows in St Luke's Church before all of the family and their friends followed by cake and champagne for everyone in the church hall.  There was not a dry eye in the church as they stood together before the altar, and the love between them which had never faltered in all of those 60 years shone in their faces as they looked at one another.

Mum and Dad celebrated their Sapphire anniversary five years later under very different circumstances.  Dad was in hospital suffering from terminal cancer, and in our hearts we knew it would be their last one.  A little over a month later, he passed away.  The card he gave Mum that November, with his beautiful and loving message to her written inside it, is still displayed in a special spot at Mum's home.
