Landslide
It was a relief to leave the bitterly cold wind and flurries of snow on our walk along part of the Borders Abbey Way as we found shelter beside the Jed Water in Jedburgh before catching the bus home. Masses of wallflowers (extra) clung to the 20+ metre high Old Red Sandstone cliff with its spectacular horizontal bedding while a dipper and heron searched the water below and the first swallows of the year swooped around. The river bank was looking colourful with the pink butterbur and carpets of white Three Cornered Leek with a few early Wild Garlic flowers starting to emerge. There was evidence that the river had been about 3 or 4 metres higher but today it was shallow but perhaps recent floods had caused the massive landslide at Grumphy’s Scar with its overhanging vegetation.
