Damson blossom

Today's the day .............................. to be vulnerable

By 'eck it's been cold here today.

Temperatures in single figures and a wind straight from the arctic that would slice you in two.  There's been the odd flurry of sleet and hailstones but the sky is clear now and they are warning us that it will be a cold enough night to give us a frosty start to the day tomorrow.

All that is not good news for the masses of damson blossom that has opened on the trees in the past few days.  It is very susceptible to frost - and one cold morning can completely devastate the damson crop later in the year.  Unfortunately it seems to happen like that fairly often - and so the producers can never guarantee having a regular supply of damson fruit for sale.

One year, Will did his best to save the blossom from the late frosts, by attempting to cover our two trees with a big sheet.  He may well have to go out there tonight ...........................
