Bristol

After nearly 5 hours on a train I thought I'd walk from Temple Meads to St Werburghs. It turns out that Bristol has some less than salubrious areas. Fortunately as I grew up in Salford I felt quite at home.
But at this underpass I paused. All of this is fake really. If you look closely you'll make out a word. It's not come out well but it was illuminated, a work of public art. As I paused I tried to contemplate what it seeks to add to its environment, what it is meant to convey. Genuinely I spent a while, but got no closer to an understanding. I can be a fan of graffiti when it has relevance, context or soul but this stylised copy had little effect.
I wonder if I missed something or whoever commissioned it did, or if in fact it served it's purpose in making me stop. Forever seems unlikely though.
