Gerald Rickwood
I was contacted a few days ago by this gentleman, asking for details about our Photographic Society's annual exhibition. He was manager of a photographic shop in our town in the late 1960s, and donated a trophy then - in the name of the company - to be awarded to the photographer who received the largest number of votes from visitors to the exhibition. That trophy is still awarded annually, 48 years later.
Gerald arranged to visit the exhibition today, travelling to Hertfordshire from his current home in Surrey. He explained to me the history of the company, how he came to work there, and went on to tell me many more fascinating facts from his life story. He also showed me pictures of how the shop looked when he first moved there, and how he redesigned the frontage during his time as manager.
He was a lovely, entertaining man and it was a pleasure to meet him.
