36 St. Andrew Square; a building full of bankers.
Built as a townhouse in Edinburgh's emerging 'New Town' by Sir Lawrence Dundas during 1772. After his death in 1781 the building became the H.Q. of The Excise in Scotland and the interior was converted from domestic to bureaucratic space. The Royal Bank Of Scotland bought the offices in1825 and made it their H.Q. in 1828. Extensive alterations were made by the bank between 1857 and 1861, including construction of the grand banking hall which is still in use today.
