Squacco Heron(Ardeola ralloides)
A Squacco Heron on the look out for frogs and toads around the perimeter of the Wadi. It is now too hot in the middle of the day to go birding so early morning and late afternoon are the only times I can go out now. The Squacco Heron is a bird that arrives at the Wadi at these times also, where he or she is for the rest of the day is a mystery, but I should think it is keeping cool in the trees. The Crag Martins have returned and are drinking the water from our swimming pool even while I am swimming in it! I love to swim with them as they come so close, but getting a photo of one is a different matter. Anyway their return means summer weather is here in Oman and that means the temperature is now in the high thirties ( 36-38 degrees Celsius) At least the wadi water is still relatively cool.
