King Neptune with a red beard

Perhaps not intended by the sculptor
but certainly rather eye-catching !
This fountain on the steps down to
the sands from the North end of the
Spa at Scarborough is now the outlet
for the famous Spa waters. Whilst
there is a sign advising that they are
not now fit for purpose or words to
that effect - the colouration suggests
that sufferers from pernicious anaemia
in bygone days might have found these
waters with their iron content easier to
swallow than raw liver!
