Six in a row
These are covers of manholes (in Dutch: "boldeksels"); giving access to the coolingwaterducts of the plant.
One can walk in each duct.
There are six ducts, one for each unit and one return duct which we use to send the warm water, coming out of a unit, back to the pumping station.
This we do when the incoming water is very cold in the winter; in that way we prevent the intake before the units becoming too low (and decrease the efficiency) or: in summertime we "thermoshock" the units regularly to kill mussels, oysters and barnacles which grow in the coolingwaterducts.
In the back you can see the dike with some sheep grazing on it....
Better in LARGE....
Quiet day today; only one unit running.
We are preparing another unit for maintenance next week.
