Actually the Bible is much more matter-of-fact when it comes to Moses smiting the rock in Horeb, but I was feeling sort of apocalyptic/poetic on a damp afternoon when I saw this. It's amazing the power of a tree falling on the hillside; most of these conifers are on rock, with a very shallow root-system, and they pull great chunks of rock and soil off with them when they fall.

And it strikes me that this is one of these blips of desperation ...
