Worker Bees still struggle!

Happy May Day!   The true meaning of May Day here in the U. S isn't very well known...more preferred to be thought of as a day to collect flowers and put them in baskets and leave on doorsteps or just give out flowers....but the truth be known...we have quite a radical history behind this day dispite many govt. officials always trying to keep it a secret or squelch it's history.  Over 66 other countries celebrate the real meaning...the fight that took place at Haymarket Square in Chicago to get the 8 hour day for workers!   I'm including a link of the entire story of the history here  so as to not write on and on...and I'll leave you with a quote from that site to put it in a nutshell:

Truly, history has a lot to teach us about the roots of our radicalism. When we remember that people were shot so we could have the 8-hour day; if we acknowledge that homes with families in them were burned to the ground so we could have Saturday as part of the weekend; when we recall 8-year old victims of industrial accidents who marched in the streets protesting working conditions and child labor only to be beat down by the police and company thugs, we understand that our current condition cannot be taken for granted - people fought for the rights and dignities we enjoy today, and there is still a lot more to fight for. The sacrifices of so many people can not be forgotten or we'll end up fighting for those same gains all over again. This is why we celebrate May Day."
  This is very personally important to me as I spent the better part of my years driving school bus working also as the union shop steward defending fellow driver's rights.  I took classes in union history for credit, I learned from older people who actually fought many a "good fight" for worker's rights and human rights especially during the McCarthy years...most of the ones I have known have since passed away...but their influence upon me was great and their legacy lives on ...especially here in Seattle as seen by the big May Day march that took place downtown today and other cities see here.
So since the struggle for worker''s rights is particularly a big issue today I decided to blip the hard working worker bee symbolic of the hard working women and men all over the world.  HAPPY MAY DAY...HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKERS DAY!
