Marloes Sands

Backblipped for 15th April

Our last day here so first to visit the Wickedly Welsh Chocolate Company for gifts to take home, and, although the advertised tours were not available (which troubled us not a whit) we had a chat with the owner as we made our selection from the exciting flavours, learning how they gave up a stressful life in the rat race to start this business. I wish them every success.

Pottered round towards Little haven, St Brides and to the village of Marloes (we recommend the Lobster Pot Inn for lunch) before a strenuous circular walk from Martins Haven to Wooltack Point; the National Coastwatch Institution have a meteorological observation hut at the highest point (can you see it in Extra 1?).

A short distance from there are Marloes Sands, a geological gem - here the rocks demonstrate extreme folding, such that the bedding planes are near-vertical, as witness obvious ripple marks (from sedimentary deposition in an aquatic environment) on exposed surfaces (Extra photo 2) It is also a haven for finding a variety of fossils (no, I did not bring them all home).

And so back to base, to pack for an early departure tomorrow.
