“Somerset Morris perform Cotswold Morris dances which come from the villages of Ducklington (Oxon), Kirtlington (Oxon) and Ilmington (Worcs). These dances are characterized by the use of sticks or handkerchiefs and require considerable physical dexterity. Women did dance the Morris in the past but there were fewer female sides than today.” www.somersetmorris.org.uk
A quick visit to the picturesque village of Newton St Loe this morning, for their annual Village May Day Country Market. The origins of the village go back to Roman times and Newton St Loe was mentioned in the Domesday records. Today the majority of the 18th century village properties and land belong to the Duchy of Cornwall, and the village remains relatively unspoilt by time.
(Sorry to blip and run, but I’ve got a busy evening and a busy day ahead of me tomorrow so I’ll catch up with you all as soon as I can…)
