In the night of April 7th 1944, 144 British bombers carried out an attack on the railway yard in Montzen, Belgium. 15 Planes were intercepted by German hunters. One bomber crashed in Cartils. Four crewmembers died and were buried on the cemetery in Maastricht. One was arrested by the Germans and two crewmembers found shelter in safe houses nearby.
