Really ?

I must have passed this plaque hundreds of times - it's at eye-level on the busiest corner in our town ( the Co-op car park) - but I'd never noticed it till this evening.  I think it has been recently repainted. Perhaps by someone with a sense of humour? 

That horse is surely more pantomime than heraldry? And the deer with the gilded hooves - a bit satanic?  Look at the lions, those ears look like horns, shades of Old Nick.  And the leer on their faces ...

And whose Coat of Arms is it?  Well, it hangs on the wall of our branch of a well-known Scottish Bank, currently mostly owned by us-the-taxpayers.

Hmm.
