Tiny Tuesday - New Bud

The sun was shining gloriously this morning and was catching the new buds on the osteospermums, so I thought this little bud would be a suitable entry for Tiny Tuesday.  Also enjoying the morning sun and the sunflower hearts was a goldfinch (see Extra). Having had brilliant sunshine all morning, as sure as eggs is eggs the sun disappeared when I went with friends to Ashridge this afternoon - typical! It was still lovely to see the bluebells in full bloom (see Extra). All are best seen large.

The origin of the phrase 'as sure as eggs is eggs' is not known. It was thought that it might have come from a corruption of the mathematical formula 'x is x; but the earliest reference to it is in 1698 in a record of slang terms used by the lowlife of Tudor and Stuart England and therefore is unlikely to be from a mathematical origin.
