Scotland votes again

Though you would hardly know it.

I fear for the turnout tomorrow as I think there has been a fateful combination of factors that has rendered this election almost invisible on the streets, and thereby of almost no interest to all but the already politically engaged.

Local authority bans on the use of lamp posts for party posters; encouragement of postal voting which surely means that a good proportion of the public stop listening to any arguments days and weeks before actual polling day; poor quality media coverage which is putting out the message that the result is a foregone conclusion (will fewer vote as a result?); the disappearance of much discussion and information from publuc to online forums; the decision by the UK government to hold the referendum on EU membership so close to the devolved nation elections, in spite of requests to ensure there was clear (campaigning) water between them; the fact that this is the third major vote to take place here in slightly over 18 months.

I hope i am proved wrong.
