R is for Retired unbeaten ...

A very proud father writing here..... This mornings cricket match was against Grayshott who have already won the league. Unfortunately 5 of our key players were unavailable for the match, and we could only muster 8 players in total - so it was a seriously weakened team that took to the field.

Sonnumber 2 won his first toss of the season (about time!) and chose to field first. We managed to restrict Grayshott to 120 runs in their 20 overs which was a highly commendable effort - and well done Sonnumber2 for taking 2 good wickets.

When we started batting, our wickets fell cheaply and we lost 3 wickets in the first 4 overs. However, Sonnumber2 dug in and played a Captains innings, scoring 30 runs at more than a run a ball. Man of the match, however, went to Sonnumber1, who will be the first to admit that he is not a natural batsman, who came in when things were looking very shaky, and retired (league rules) on an unbeaten 25, including 4 beautifully struck fours.

As luck would have it, we finished on 116, just falling 5 runs short, but a valiant effort from everyone who played - and special praise to Sonnumber1 and Sonnumber2 who were awesome with bats, balls and fielding. Well done boys. So proud of you :-)
