Liberation Day

Today is a national holiday,  because it's Ascension Day.  I never hear anybody about any commemoration of Jesus going up in heaven... Usually people go for an immensely early walk or bikeride,  go to some event or buy new plants for the garden. Ah well,  a free day is a free day,  especially with the good weather we had today.

This year was exceptional though,  because Ascension Day coincides with Liberation Day,  which,  oddly enough,  is a national holiday once every five years only. Not every year we get free time to celebrate our freedom.  For me Liberation Day, the fact that we live in freedom,  we are free to think and do as we please,  we are free to live our lives as we see fit, is way, way more important.

Today was Ascension Day.  Oddly enough,  watching TV, listening to the radio,  I never once heard anyone mention anything related to that.  Of course all that was to hear and see was about Liberation Day.  As it should be.  As it should be every year!

In my blip a flag in my street and the King and Queen on TV watching the traditional music show which takes place every 5th of May to end the celebrations of Liberation Day.  A concert,  situated at the canals in Amsterdam,  ending as always with "We'll  meet again",  world famous song at that time by Dame Vera Lynn.
