The Prairies

This the the Hutterite colony near Neepwa. The Hutterite are in the words of google "an ethno-religious group that is a communal branch of Anabaptists, who like the Amish and Mennonites, trace their roots to the Radical Reformation of the 16th century." They wear bonnets and long dresses and speak mostly German, are very conservative and have common ownership of most goods. There are 100 colonies here in Manitoba.

As this is my 99th blip I wanted to be more informative and post some poetry. The excellent blip would be my 100th but we have something exciting planned for tomorrow. I love when others do this so here goes. I found the passage below at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. The plains where the Hutterites now live were once roamed by Buffalo my replaced by farming and the native population is almost invisible.

The End of Buffalo Days

We thought we had more time

More time to learn about the newcomers who we're filling our land

More time to learn about farming and ranching

More time to adjust to these new ways

But by 1879, the Buffalo had disappeared

The governments of Canada and United States told our people they must live on Reserves and Reservations if they wanted help

Our people had to obey laws that made no sense to our way of thinking

But our people were starving and could not resist the changes. They gave up the old ways and moved to the Reserves and Reservations.

Thank you emhowl and sarah1708 for the inspiration
