Election day and night and day

Local elections yesterday, which in Salford's case means one third of the Council seats, and a City Mayor election as well - Salford is one of the few local authorities with a directly elected mayor.

At the Stadium last night for 9pm, left at 3.30 am this morning. Four or so hours sleep, and then a return for the City Mayor count. This took much longer than expected. If a candidate fails to reach 50% of the vote, then second preferences have to be counted. Paul Dennett achieved 49.56% on first preferences. He came through clearly when second preferences were added - so, a new City Mayor. Interesting times ahead.

Left at 3.30pm, but had to go to Swinton for a meeting and to pick some things up for the weekend.

The blip is about an hour before the Mayoral count begins, so early-ish morning.

I am whacked - flake out and early night are both on the cards.
