On to a Good Thing

This starling has discovered a taste for the apples I left on the tree for the waxeyes. I have never seen starlings eating apples before. They show no interest in the food I put out for the birds, even when there’s snow on the ground.

Much of the time he sits in the pin oak tree doing excellent imitations of the other birds in the neighbourhood, but he makes frequent trips to the apple tree. Most of the shots I took were of him bending over to peck the apple, though I did manage to get a few with him looking up. I chose this one because of his wicked expression.
