Waiting

One thing we can never forecast is how long we will have to wait in a queue to get through the Harecastle Tunnel. Four narrowboats are let through at a time and we were first in the queue but we had to wait 40 minutes for ones coming towards us to come out..

The tunnel is 1.7 miles long and is very low in places. It took us 35 minutes to get through. There is no towpath so, in days gone by, boaters had to send their horses on and work their boat along by lying on the roof and treading the ceiling with their feet.

This was time to retire for a shower
