Celts.
I recommend to you the Celts exhibition at the NMS Chambers Street.
It is £10 (less for concessions) and has four rooms of BC artefacts from all over Europe. I have seen many of them before, but mostly on the TV rather than face to face.
The exhibitions is beautifully done, with the many wonderous objects such as torcs and shields and pottery displayed at their best. There is a re-created chariot, and a video of a modern gold worker creating a torc from a block of gold using nothing fancier than a couple of deer antlers and a hammer.
It gives political and social history from the bronze age through to the Victorian re-interpretation of the Celtic identity.
I enjoyed it enough to buy the £5 booklet with all its wonderful photos. On our way out I asked C1 what her favourite object was, and she named the beer mug with the deer prancing joyously across it.
Personally I liked the Roman coin with the chubby pony. He is almost Thelwellian in his cheerfulness.
