Mercury Viewing Party at #YorkU

Mercury is transiting the Sun right now. YorkU's Astronomy Department and the Astronomy Club got together to host a viewing party by the new stadium. Three telescopes with filters were set up so passersby could eyeball the tiny planet as it passes in front of the Sun. I took a look and it was pretty cool. The event is also being live-streamed until the transit is over around 3pm.

News crews from CBC and CTV were there covering the event and interviewing my friend Paul Delaney who is the head astronomer here and the director of the Division of Natural Sciences. He's the guy in the cowboy hat near the reporter in the red coat.
