Springtime Feast
The spring herring run is an annual tourist attraction on Cape Cod. The herring swim upstream from the ocean to fresh water ponds to spawn.
The old Stony Brook Grist Mill in Brewster is known for attracting crowds to view this amazing feat of nature. Tourists aren't the only visitors. The gulls arrive in droves for these easy pickings. Last time I visited the gulls were there but the herring were no where to be found. Apparently the water was too cold. Today, I arrived in time to witness a raucous feeding with lots of squawks, flapping and water spray. This Herring Gull is fighting with a juvenile for a juicy herring. In the extras I have posted a couple of other feeding scenes.
