Gorse
There is a lot of gorse around us on the northern lake district fells which is now well in to bloom.
There was much mining here for many centuries and the flat topped hummock in the background is an old spoil heap...thousands of tons, all dug out by hand. There were many minerals here...gold, silver, lead, barium, all now worked out. The last mine shut 50 years ago....we live in the old mine foreman's cottage.
