Getting a couple of slices off the side a few weeks ago appears to have done the trick. It was the work of mere hours today to break four good-sized chunks with viable leaves off the main rootclump, using nothing more than two different saws, a chisel and two different spades to hack into it and try and force the bits apart. Now that there are some separate pottable bits the lump remaining in the ground will have the fuck mattocked out of it before having any remaining under-fence sneakroots weedkillered, hopefully bringing the matter to a close.
