The Doirlinn
20.9C sunny and bright with some cloud. Not so hazy. Easterly or ENE wind to 22 mph with gusts to 33 mph.
After lunch Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our walk. The soundtrack to Local Hero then Capercaillie (Delirium) on the iPod Mini. We crossed the road and made our way across the park to the esplanade then walked round past the marina to the two quays of the harbour. The fishing boats must have almost all been out at sea. The old quay was almost empty.
We walked out past the new quay, where sections of wind turbine were being delivered again, then past the ferry terminal and out to the end of the park then along towards Glenramskill. Although Maeve wasn't in cooperative walking mood because of the heat I plodded on out past the NATO jetty to the point where the walk across the Doirlinn to Davaar island can be made at low tide. From there I tried a panorama shot to include the Doirlinn, the beacon, Kildalloig bay, and Davaar island. To get to the island the walk is out to the beacon then turn right and follow the high part of the causeway to the shore. When the tide is low the whole area to the right of the causeway is mud flats. When the tide is high only the beacon is above water. I can see vertical bands in the panorama shot, but it was my one and only try so here it is.
On this type of lochside walk the only real option is to return the same way. There is a path I would like to try near town, but it is still closed for repairs (or something). So we arrived back in town at the harbour from the long narrow park by the loch and made our way home from there.
