Burghead Transmitter
After a fantastic day taking in Fort George, Nairn, Findhorn and Elgin we ended our day of Moray Firth exploration in Burghead. The sunset view from below the fort was stunning, especially so with a cruise liner passing between, see my extra photo!
Many other images shot on film as I had a roll of beautiful Neopan 1600 in my Canon EOS 3. Will blip an image from this for tomorrow's blip when I get the film processed.
As for this blip, the transmission facility at Burghead was founded by the BBC in 1936 to bring good quality radio coverage to Northern Scotland. The site carries BBC Radio Scotland on 810am, BBC 5 Live on 693am and also the iconic BBC Radio 4 Long Wave service on 198khz. It is one of three sites in the country, Droitwich and Westerglen, which transmit the 198 service and they are all synchronized to avoid excessive interference. A beautiful part of the world with such wonderful views across the Moray Firth. You can see the two VHF and TV transmitters that serve the area from the Black Isle in the left of frame, approximately 25 miles away. Burghead is a lovely town with its grid pattern civility and Pictish Fort at the seaward end of its promontory.
